Our Current Appeal

Our current appeal is in two stages. The first started in January 2019 and is for £100K to build a new, commercial kitchen to provide our own meals. So far we have raised £90K - can you help with any sized donations? We hope to get this work done at the end of 2019. The second stage is for 2020 and our aim is to raise £150K for a new "Open Plan room".

Now we can have 50 clients per day, we are able to retain them for longer as their condition deteriorates. One of the features of the last stages of memory loss is that some clients need to roaming around the premises, and interact with staff.

Our staff ratios in the Day Centre do not allow as much support as some need, and more importantly, the building with it’s Victorian rooms and corridors and alcoves, does not allow staff to keep a safe eye on what is going on with those who roam. We have a room that was built as an extension, that by extending it, would become a decent large sized Open Plan room where a higher staff ratio would allow us to have up to 10 clients per day who otherwise would have had to go into a nursing home.

Our charges for the day would be more than charged now (currently £27) at probably £50, but far cheaper than nursing home fees, and the client could continue to stay at home for longer. The provision would be for Monday to Friday, but could be extended to include weekends if the demand was there. There is no similar provision in Bath at present. The clients will have least disruption in their lives as they would still come “to Peggy Dodd”.
