Margaret Fisher Higher Dependency Day Room

We have now completed Phase 2 of our Appeal, and have a lovely new open plan Day Room that will enable us to take another 12 clients, and this time it is for those who have advanced memory loss and need more individual attention and support. It has a higher ratio of staff to clients, enabling us to provide assisted feeding and other care.

We received a large donation of £75,000 from the Margaret Fisher Trust towards this work, and are pleased to name it after this lady, who had an ethos similar to Mrs Peggy Dodd about caring for the vulnerable. Mrs L Teesdale, their lead Trustee says;

"The Margaret Fisher Trust was established in May 1982 by Margaret (Peggy) Fisher, with the aim of supporting the elderly, and those with disabilities. The Trust focused primarily but not solely upon the needs of people in the Shaftesbury area of Dorset (where Margaret Fisher lived for many years), and also in Kent: the Trust’s first project was helping to purchase land, and to pay construction costs, for an Abbeyfield House in Paddock Wood.

In October 2018, the Trustees visited the Peggy Dodd Centre, and felt that the dedicated care shown here to vulnerable clients, and those who look after them, made this a cause which Margaret Fisher would most gladly support"

Our thanks go not only to Margaret Fisher Trust but also many individuals, local businesses and charities that have supported this venture.
